We would like to be able to welcome as much book enthusiasts as possible, this is why we decided to postpone the bookfair to the 24-26 september 2021.

We hope to see you at the Tscharnergut in Bern at that moment!

Programme 2021

A lot of editors and other stalls have already confirmed their presence and the events programme of this year’s bookfair is getting more and more clear. The following events are confirmed:

  • Game Night
  • Corona-Solifon
  • Workshop Relationship Anarchy
  • Play! With the Kommunikatzen
  • Book presentation: Die Aktionsliga der Bauarbeiter. Der Anarchismus erobert die Genfer Baustellen der Zwischenkriegszeit.
  • Book presentation: Workers’ Inquiry and Global Class Struggle: Strategies, Tactics, Objectives
  • Round table: working in a collective or a co-op
  • Health workers’ struggle for better working conditions
  • Concert: Pin Noir

Game Night

It is what the name says: different board games, some more complicated, some easier, some longer, some shorter. Please let us know in advance if you’re coming!

At the end of March 2020, we created from scratch a hotline for workers. Since then, volunteers provide counseling in matters of labor law and social security. Activists present the project after its first year of existence and show us some other perspectives of corona and its effects.

Workshop Relationship Anarchy

Tired of monogamy? Interested in sharing experiences with relationship anarchy or curious what this is all about? We’ll talk about issues like jealousy, communication, consent and privileges.

Play! With the Kommunikatzen

Don’t you know it? Lenghty, monotonous meetings, new or complicated situations in a already strenous political routine? Or do you organise or meet often new people you don’t know (very well) yet? Playing can help to break the ice, to get to know each other, to support boring meetings or to get aha moments.

Book presentation: Die Aktionsliga der Bauarbeiter. Der Anarchismus erobert die Genfer Baustellen der Zwischenkriegszeit.

A discussion with the translator.

The Ligue of construction workers founded in the 1920s in Geneva was the armed extension of the Swiss union of construction and wood workers. It soon became a real threat for employers: who didn’t respect their part of the contract, could see his construction site demolished. Despite summons and arrests, the Ligue was able to establish with their spectacular actions a new system of collective labor agreements. The spectacular activism of the Ligue stands for the hopes and tensions in the Swiss labor market in between the two world wars. The present study is a precious contribution to the renewal of the workers’ struggle.

Book presentation: Workers’ Inquiry and Global Class Struggle: Strategies, Tactics, Objectives

Rumours of the death of the global labour movement have been greatly exaggerated. Rising phoenix-like from the ashes of the old trade union movement, workers’ struggle is being reborn from below by workers themselves.

By engaging in what Karl Marx called a workers’ inquiry, workers and militant co-researchers are studying their working conditions, the technical composition of capital, and how to recompose their own power in order to devise new tactics, strategies, organisational forms and objectives. These workers’ inquiries, from call centre workers to platform, trucking, cleaning, logistics, mining, auto factories, teachers, and adjunct professors, are re-energising unions, bypassing unions altogether or innovating new forms of workers’ organisations.

In one of the first major studies to critically assess this new cycle of global working class struggle, Robert Ovetz collects together case studies from over a dozen contributors, looking at workers’ movements in China, Mexico, the US, South Africa, Turkey, Argentina, Italy, India and the UK. The book reveals how these new forms of struggle are no longer limited to single sectors of the economy or contained by state borders, but are circulating internationally and disrupting the global capitalist system as they do.
