Our goal is to collectively organise and coordinate various important life areas, such as salaried work, care work, producing common goods and activism as well as critical thinking. Because of this, we choose to live in collective economy and to share our money.

We would like to present our ideas, our structures and our questions in order to share our experiences and to reflect together on how the revolutionary can find a place in our daily lives.

Communicating in a zone to defend: the case of the Zad of Notre-Dame-des-Landes

The question of communication in our spaces and in our struggles is a major issue when considering our ability to organise ourselves internally and externally. It is also an area where the tensions and contradictions between our libertarian ideals and our practical reality are starkly shown. With a decade of illegal occupation, the Zad of Notre-Dame-des-Landes has a long history of experiments, successes and failures that we would like to share.

We will therefore collectively present and question three tools that we believe are central to the daily organization of the Zad. First of all, the internal organization tool the Zad News, a weekly “newspaper” of the occupation movement delivered to all the various living spaces in the Zad. Secondly, Radio Klaxon, a pirate radio that hijacks the Vinci radio airwaves. Radio Klaxon serves as much for internal organization as external and broadcasts news and other content daily, as well as information during in repressive situations. And finally, we will talk about the External Communications group, which manages the Zad website, the mailbox and the emergency phone.

One of the aims of this discussion is to talk about our experiences of self-organization in order to share the results of our successes and our failures and what can therefore transcend our particular case and be re-appropriated and used by everyone.

13.00 – 14.30: Workshop 3 (Consensus)

A short introduction to consensus decision making

Most groups vote to make decisions, a choice which inevitably leads to „winners“ and „losers“ and can create very yes / no, black / white discussions. But there are other ways to reach agreement. Decision-making by consensus means working together to find a decision with which everyone is happy. This involves taking into account all opinions, ideas and issues in order to find a final proposal that works for everyone. Instead of voting or following a leader, the responsibility of finding win / win solutions that work for everyone is shared.
This workshop will provide a brief overview of how consensus decision-making can work, followed by a discussion about the benefits and challenges of this method of making decisions.

15.00 – 16.30: Workshops 5 (Radio) and 6 (Megafon)

Workshop: Journalism in direct democracy

Presentation and discussion

Journalism that criticizes power should not be a concept, but a practice. That is to say, the critical aspect must not only be part of the approach or attitude adopted, but also influence the way we prepare for such a confrontation with the world.

As such, journalism is not only an opportunity to develop a critical view of the world, but also offers the opportunity to question one’s own expectations, beliefs and practices.

Megafon is a Bern newspaper, organised according to the principles of self-management and direct democracy. It is written, drawn and printed at the Reitschule cultural and political center. Each month, Megafon publishes journalistic and graphic contributions, as well as the complete program of events at the Reitschule.

After a brief overview of our editorial work, we propose an open discussion on concrete ways of further developing the newspaper.

19.00: Dinner

20.00 – 24.00: Concerts

Tschämi Sole (folk/blues/soul/hip-hop)

Protestango (hip-hop/tango punk)

Sunday

10.00 – 13.00: Brunch

11.00 – 13.00: Radio workshop for kids

13.00 – 15.00: Workshop 7 (Organising resilience)

Organising for Resilience

A short presentation and interactive workshop exploring skills and tools which can make our activism more effective and sustainable.
